Asking for spelling and checking information – English 1AC

Learn to ask for the spelling of a name and check that you have understood information correctly.

1. Ask a clear question

Use «How do you spell your name?» or «Could you spell that, please?» You ask for letters, not for a translation. Keep a polite tone.

2. Give and record the letters

Say the letters in order and pause between them. For example: «N-O-R-A». If a letter is unclear, ask again rather than guessing.

3. Check the information

Repeat the spelling: «Is that N-O-R-A?» Then wait for confirmation or a correction. Use invented names when practising rather than sharing private contact information.
